At GLP Solicitors, we recently helped a client secure £97,800 in Criminal Injuries Compensation after her original claim was wrongly rejected. Her case shows the importance of expert legal support for survivors of long-term abuse.

A confusing start

In 2021, our client came to us confused and distressed after receiving a rejection from CICA, based on the claim being “out of time” and no crime of violence being identified, despite clear signs of serious abuse.

Challenging the process

We challenged the decision and argued it should be disregarded due to procedural issues. CICA agreed, allowing a fresh decision to be made, resulting in an initial award of £17,900.

Pushing for what was fair

We believed this amount didn’t reflect the full extent of her abuse or losses. We requested a review, highlighting the longer duration of abuse, the presence of physical violence, and her significant mental health and financial impacts. CICA then increased the award to £46,200.

Taking it further

Critical issues still hadn’t been addressed, so we appealed. We argued for full recognition of the abuse’s length and severity, a proper mental health evaluation, and accurate loss of earnings.

Final victory

At the tribunal hearing, our client was awarded £97,800, covering:

  • Full past and future loss of earnings
  • Compensation for long-term sexual abuse
  • A separate award for physical abuse

A life-changing result

This case took nearly four years to resolve, from an initial rejection to a life-changing award. Without our involvement, the claimant would have received nothing. Through careful strategy, relentless advocacy, and a trauma-informed approach, we secured a result that not only validates our client’s experiences but also offers some financial security for her future.

At GLP Solicitors, we are proud to stand beside survivors of abuse and to fight for the justice and recognition they deserve. Our team brings deep expertise, unwavering commitment, and compassion to every CICA case we handle. If you or someone you know needs advice or representation in a similar matter, we’re here to help.
