What is the Armed Forces Covenant?
The Armed Forces Covenant is a national commitment to ensuring that serving personnel, reservists, veterans and military families are treated fairly and are not disadvantaged because of their service.
Organisations across the UK can show their support by signing a Covenant pledge.
Why GLP has renewed its pledge?
By renewing our pledge, GLP is reaffirming its support for the Armed Forces community. We also want to recognise the valuable contribution they make to our organisation, our local community and the wider country.
We’re proud to continue supporting the principles of the Covenant and our commitment to those who serve, or have served, in the Armed Forces.
Is the Armed Forces Covenant a legal requirement?
There are two different things to be aware of.
- The Covenant pledge is a voluntary commitment made by an organisation, and is what GLP has renewed.
- The Covenant Legal Duty is a statutory obligation on certain public bodies to “have due regard” to the principles of the Covenant. It was introduced by the Armed Forces Act 2021 and has been amended by the Armed Forces Act 2026.
The legal duty applies to specified public bodies, rather than to a business’s own pledge.

Yes. GLP Solicitors has recently re-signed the Covenant, and our renewed pledge is now formally registered. We are proud to continue supporting its principles and our commitment to those who serve, or have served, in the Armed Forces.
It supports serving personnel, reservists, veterans and military families. Military service can affect the whole family, not only the person who serves, which is why the Covenant looks to the wider Armed Forces community.
A business pledge is a voluntary commitment. The separate Covenant Legal Duty is a statutory obligation on certain public bodies to have due regard to the Covenant’s principles in specified areas, and does not apply to a firm’s own pledge.
It means the business is publicly pledging to support the Armed Forces community and treat its members fairly. For GLP, renewing the pledge reaffirms that support and recognises the contribution the community makes to our firm and our area.
